Release Story

Context before checkout

Track 8 is from the 310 album Sixes and Sevens that was released in 2007. I wanted to include a track that Ralph Rolle played drums on, and Ralph played on most of our Sixes and Sevens album. Since 1997 we have always created our own fusion of ambient soundscapes and atmospheric sounds with hip hop and trip hop style programmed beats. With Ralph on this album, it was the first time that we used a live drummer. For Track 8 I was creating an atmosphere of riding a train and staring out the window at the sights going by. I’ve always loved train songs with that churning style hi hat that emulates the wheels on a track. Ralph provided that feel for this track with his excellent hi hat playing. The Sixes and Sevens album was a great transformation album for us when Ralph took our music to another level. Charity: I live in Western North Carolina an hour and half east of the Asheville area that experienced an enormous amount of devastation from Hurricane Helene in September 2024. During the period just after the hurricane and months afterward, I followed updates from the people at Operation Anchor about the immense struggles people were experiencing. In many cases the people at Operation Anchor would ride horseback into areas cut off from roads that were washed away. I developed a huge admiration for them and what they are doing and their continuing recovery efforts for Western North Carolina.
